What to wear for Halloween

Now that I can finally fit into a store bought costume for the first time in 25 years, I have decided not to go that route but to make myself into a bag lady. There happens to be a Good Will shop in the same center as our Moose Lodge so I went in Monday night just to look around (never know if a treasure will pop up) and I saw a men's flannel jacket which reminded me of something a bag lady would wear, so I picked it up and decided to wander around the store and see what else I could find. I found an old hat, wig (I will wash it 10 times at least), apron, big ugly shirt and leather looking shopping bag with handles to carry whatever " bag lady valuables" I can come up with.

I already have a skirt which is two sizes two big and I will use a rope belt to hold it up. I have boots and bulky socks to fold over. I got a doll's dress which I will put on one of my stuffed mooses to carry around like a baby. I will put a bandaid on my glasses, wear a ton of red rouge and blue eye liner.

So I am asking everyone what else you might suggest to make me more authentic. I also need help deciding what to put in the bag which I will carry around like my life depends on it.Your suggestions will be appreciated. Our Halloween party is October 27th and I will have someone take a picture to post.

Neat costume... don't forget to take pictures now that you can post in your blog! I remember seeing a homeless lady that clutched a bag all the time in the city here and when she would pull stuff out it would have only crumpled up newspaper balls and rocks!! she would find sheets of newspapers and crumple them into neat little balls and find "pretty" rocks, is what she would say. It was pretty amazing...

Lol that will be a great costume! The bag lady I use to see often in the downtown area would collect empty bottles and put it in her bag...I guess she would go to the store and trade them in for money. Can't wait to see pictures in all your get up:-) xox

cans are a great idea and very light. I can get those at the lodge. The wig is long black and I thought I would have in messy hanging out of the hot which is a baggy kind of dirty beige knit. I just hope I don't start to itch!!!

I think that is a fantastic idea for a costume. Not sure what our bag ladies carry around here except maybe for cans of catfood!

Will look forward to pictures!

Catfood??? I can understand pidgon food, but cat food?? Ok, I can throw a couple of cans in the bag.

Keep the ideas coming folks. I am sure somebody will ask "what's in the bag??"

Forget carrying a bag...just grab a wagon from a supermarket and put that around;~)

Lynn, I thought about the wagon because there are a few of the 99 cent store ones around the lodge but it's so bulky and the hall will be filled with a lot of people, so that's why I decided on the bag.

This is me, rolling around laughing! You need some ugly gloves with all the fingers cut out. Be sure you have a floppy felt or knit hat with maybe a yellow flower on it for 'dash'! If you can borrow a real shopping cart and load it with paper, plastic and cans, I would walk through with it once and use it if they have a contest. You will be mahvalous!

I'd go with what Lynn said, you need a shopping cart!! (sounds like a great costume tho ;-)

Peace

Ok folks, I will take the shopping cart from under the stairs to use for the costume contest then put it back after I am done. I have an old Moose blanket in the car and some old shirts in the house. I have had a suggestion of newspapers and flashlight. I still have almost a month to work on collecting stuff.
